Investing in dental hygiene education is an investment in the health of Indigenous communities. Jewel is putting in the dedication, and it is heartbreaking to see funding barriers stand in her way. Please approve Jewel’s tuition support so she can finish her training at CNIH.

Dental hygienists play an important role not only in providing oral health care, but also in health education, disease prevention, and improving access to care. Having dental hygienists who understand and can connect with their communities is a valuable asset. Supporting students like Jewel helps promote equity, diversity, and more accessible, culturally safe oral health care for everyone.

I am proud of my niece, Jewel a member of Serpent River First Nation who has been working incredibly hard to pursue her education in dental hygiene. It is disappointing to see her facing barriers in accessing the funding she needs to complete her education. Indigenous women deserve the opportunity support and resources to pursue their educational goals and build successful careers. Investing in Indigenous students is an investment in stronger communities and a brighter future.

Improving access to dental hygiene care would be an asset to any community and that community would be incredibly lucky to have Jewel help to provide it. Her dedication, knowledge, and commitment to improving and maintaining to oral/overall health of her community is admirable and helping her to provide in the future through helping her with tuition now would be incredibly beneficial.

As an Ethics & Jurisprudence Educator at CNIH our Profession has embraced the theories of Cultural Humility and Cultural Safety in dental hygiene professional practice. Jewel is able to bring her First Nations' worldview to CNIH and in turn will bring the Profession of dental hygiene to the community; not only clinical therapy but "oral health education and health promotion" (FDHRC, 2023). Respectfully, KFP
