UNSA is the backbone to UoN's student life and wellbeing. I'm so disappointed that this is how the University of Newcastle has decided to operate.
If this plan goes forward, not only will UNSA suffer, but the entire student body will too.

The dismantling of UNSA is not the way to strengthen student voices or support from the university. The defunding of UNSA is going to damage the student body for years and compromise the ability to advocate for students. What even is this mystery organisation that the uni is making, and why is the law society a part of the future plans for the SAFF funding? And again, why are students not a part of the larger conversations with university management?

Hands off UNSA! Creating a duplicate, university-controlled association would be a poor use of SSAF and a massive setback for students.

When I first arrived at UON, I felt scared and alone. Through UNSA, I found my best friends and a place where I belong. Its free food, pantry, social activities, and support have made student life much easier, especially as an international student. UNSA also gives us valuable opportunities to run clubs and develop leadership skills. It is where I feel welcomed, supported, and happy. Please—HANDS OFF UNSA!

The very least the University has to do is consult with UNSA well in advance of any planned changes.

I was involved in starting Free Food Friday at NUSA back in 2015 and have been impressed and heartened by the way it has been maintained and expanded by UNSA to support so many students. I would like to see SSAF revenue continue to go to UNSA to further that important work.
UNSA was formed from a merger of NUSA, NUPSA, and Yourimbah to be a representative body for all UoN students. UoN supported that merger and should not now undermine UNSA as a student representative body for ALL UoN students.

UNSA has been fantastic in supporting the HMRI Student Society to support students based at the research facility. UNSA have been great to work with and very responsive to anything we need as a club. Furthermore, UNSA provides crucial services, such as food relief and life skills workshops, to support students' holistic wellbeing. Defunding UNSA is another symptom of UON's corporisation. Tertiary education should be student focused!

UNSA is a great platform for UON student and we get lots of help through them specifically for the food. Overall, they care about us and our feelings too. I respect what the members are doing for the students. That's why I am standing with their demand

We need to know any restructuring in plenty time and do not agree to the management dropping this on UNSA . Why who and what is going on? Management is highly paid and badly run,in my opinion.

UNSA provides so many great events for students, they really think about what we need and want as part of our university experience. Having come from a different uni, I was so impressed by the services and events UNSA provides, it truly sets UON apart.

As an international student, UNSA is absolutely essential for newcomers—whether it’s helping to ease the loneliness of being in a new place, providing various forms of emotional support during our studies, or offering a free cup of coffee every morning. Most importantly, it allows us to make friends from many different backgrounds. Without UNSA, I wouldn’t be enjoying the wonderful college experience I have today. So please, the organization, stop misappropriating our funds and stop contacting u

UNSA is an extremely pivotal part of my student life and experience. It not only provides the means to connect with others but the prerequisite supports we, as students, should be able to access. The consequences of not providing UNSA its necessary fundings would be catastrophic and detrimental to all of us as students and individuals at The University.
