My school is currently being affected to this we are loosing the staff that are so loved towards the students and that loved teaching them but not only that but we are loosing are community job sites and might not have at all for the rest of our years at granite transitions services

Access to education is important to me as a teacher and parent. I have experienced access issues both as a teacher trying to provide support for students and as a parent advocating for a child with special needs. This adds extreme amounts of stress to students, families and teachers. We as a community need to support education for all and jobs for our community.

To the Members of the Granite School District Board of Education,
I write to urge you to reconsider the proposed reductions in special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support services. While I recognize the difficult financial decisions facing every school district, balancing a budget should never come at the expense of our most vulnerable students.

I have a niece who has a special needs child. I have seen the exhaustion, the challenges, the heartache. Although it can be a blessing and privilege to raise one of these children, it is also a daunting task. They need support and educated special needs teachers to help them navigate this journey.

Two of my grandchildren benefit from these services. Their parents pay property taxes. On August 18, you will consider potential property tax increases to recover funding. Why should their taxes “potentially” increase for services their children may not or will not receive? Cuts in funding in other areas, to make equal educational opportunity for all students, is more appropriate than blocking critical needs for Special Education Services. Please reconsider this unbalanced approach.

My son has a hearing disability and he needs the extra help in the classroom. He's improved but there are a lot of students that need it more than him and cutting funding isn't the answer.
