We are calling on WLHS to get rid of Clever on issued Chromebooks and remove the extra barrier it creates for students and teachers trying to do schoolwork. A Chromebook should make learning easier, not turn a simple login into a daily obstacle.
Clever adds unneeded difficulty for students who are just trying to get into their work. It also puts unnecessary pressure on education funds when those resources could be used for direct classroom needs instead of another layer of software. On top of that, many families are worried about data privacy. Clever connects to hundreds of third-party apps, which raises real concerns about third-party data sharing and how student information is handled.
There is also the problem of single point of failure. If Clever has a server outage, an entire school district’s digital learning can come to a halt at once, leaving teachers unable to access lesson plans or apps and students unable to continue their work. And because Single Sign-On works like a master key, if a student’s or teacher’s Clever credentials are compromised, someone could gain access to every connected application at the same time.
We believe WLHS should choose a simpler, safer, and more reliable system for school-issued Chromebooks. Students need a tool that helps them learn, protects their information, and keeps education moving without needless delays.
