Both of my sons work for FWFD. I went thru this same thing during the 1990’s. Short staff on a rig is dangerous, cpr, fires, just to name a few. You will have to add more fire trucks to fire calls because each rig is short 1 person therefore your short on personnel on the scene. This creates a shortage somewhere else.

Our city deserves to be protected and served by experienced, fully staffed ambulance and fire apparatuses. With the disregard for staffing and refusal to raise wages to be competitive with other cities in the area, we are losing our veteran fireman and medics and newly trained fireman and EMTs to other agencies. We are wasting more money having to consistently train new staff, instead of raising wages and raising our retention rate.

Lower staffing on fire apparatus causes more units to be sent to one call. The capability of completing tasks on the fire scene drops causing more units to be sent to one call leaving less units available to respond to others. In the Texas heat firefighters get over heated faster causing incidents to last longer due to less firefighters to cycle though on an incident greatly increasing the risk of heat related and cardiac emergency’s during incidents.

It is just for a city to fund emergency services with the citizens’ tax dollars. It is unjust to build a $300 million city council building with the citizens’ tax dollars.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) deserve to be compensated more than their current salaries. As the demand for emergency medical services continues to grow, EMTs bear a greater responsibility compared to other EMS services. Their starting pay is comparable to that of a fast-food worker.
