Teens should get their licenses at 16. Getting a license at that age shows responsibility and maturity. Around 25% -26% percent of teens hold a license, according to Costaline Academy, and this has declined since the 80s. 

In 1983, 46.2% of 16-year-olds in Michigan had their licenses, but it has dropped because of the cost of the program. Only 38 public schools in Michigan have driver's ed for teens. Garden City High School used to offer it but ended it because of funding. Since the school is funded by taxes from the families who enrolled their children would have enough money to keep it up and help teens in the school learn about responsibility and the importance of having a license.

 Most teens wait until they're 18 to get their license because of lower cost, alternative transportation options, and to skip the strict driving rules for teens. If a teen gets a license, they’ll learn the responsibility of paying for insurance, how to repair the car, and the laws of the road. The percentage of teens at 16 should be at least 46% again not in the 20% range. The cost of drivers ed classes should be lowered to at least $100-$200, so it is more affordable for teens and or parents. 

In the 80’s the cost of drivers ed was from $0-$175 usually free due to the school funding it. In the present day, it costs $300-$800 in private driver's ed classes, so if you add the additional fees(roadside skills and state permit fee) and let's say a used Honda Civic 2015, which costs $ 7,100 that in total would cost 7,955 in total including incurnce and gas every month.
