Arguably the greatest trotter in the history of harness racing, the incomparable Greyhound was a icon and a hero of the 1930s in America and around the world. Initially unwanted due to his undesirable color, average pedigree, ugly looks, and awkward way of going, Greyhound was gelded and sold as a yearling for just $900.
After a mediocre start at the beginning of his two-year-old season, Greyhound went on to become a legend. He set 25 world records in six seasons of racing, sixteen of which still stood when he passed away at the age of 33. His greatest record, world's fastest trotter set in 1938, stood for 31 years!
In 1937, a year that gave us Thoroughbred Triple Crow winner, War Admiral and horse hero, Seabiscuit; Algernon Daingerfield of the Jockey Club cast his vote for Horse of the Year for a Standardbred gelding named Greyhound. Daingerfield stated he alone was the greatest horse before the American people.
In retirement, Greyhound's celebrity grew. He had visitors from 27 countries and all fifty United States. For years he was the most popular free attraction in the state of Illinois.
Greyhound's incredible story was finally recorded in full in the biography "Greyhound: The Remearkable Story of the Legendary Horse who Inspired a Nation." This campaign to have Breyer create a portrait model of this incredible horse is spear-headed by the author, Cheryl L. Eriksen. Herself a collector of Breyer horses since 1987.
We the undersigned would like to show our support for this project and demonstrate our desire to see Greyhound released by Breyer as a portrait model on the fabulous Traditional sized trotting standardbred mold.
The photo shows the author's rendition of Greyhound on the preferred mold. It represents the horse as he appeared at the peak of his racing career.

That's right! Breyer has just put out a survey asking people to tell them about "horses they should know about" for possible future releases! This is our big chance to tell Breyer we want Greyhound! Here is the link to the survey. NOTE: it doesn't ask you the name of the horse until the second question. You also hit "submit" to answer each question and move to the next. Otherwise it's pretty straight forward. I am still planning to put a package together with all the petition results and other information but as we all know, the more noise we make, the more likely we will be heard! Thanks so much! Greyhound Breyer Model Update! Making progress!

A little update on where we are with this project! We are approaching 200 signatures on this online petition! The comments are wonderful--thank you! The paper petition I had at Breyerfest has a similar number of signatures. We have a long way to go but are making progress. Being featured with an interview during the Breyerfest livestream has definitely garnered some attention too! I continue to post on my social media (you can find me by name on Facebook and Instagram) and am preparing a package to send to Breyer along with the petition signatures. Next for me is the Hambletonian where I will be signing and selling Greyhound books. I *may* bring the Greyhound model for people to see but am unsure as last year space was tight and I don't know that I can keep it out of the sun. Since it's hand painted/pastels the finish isn't as durable as a regular factory painted model would be. What else can you do? The petition just went live! I don't know why it won't update but our signature goal is 4500 not 50! I think we can smash it! I'll be at Breyerfest this weekend with my portrait model I created of Greyhound. Booth 110 in the covered arena. Be sure to share this petition with other collectors and horse lovers!

I have been wondering for almost 50 years when we'd get a Greyhound model! Please Breyer, he deserves this honor, and the new trotter model would be beautiful!
As a Standardbred owner, I love the breed history as well as my collection. This would be a gorgeous addition.
Would be an excellent model/book set - The hobby enjoys history, expecially when a Great Horse is featured... no different than doing Man O War, Seabiscuit/War Admiral, Phar Lap, Horses in History/Civil War,.... time to feature a Hall of Fame Standardbred! Greyhound needs to be a model!
Breyer finally has a Standardbred Trotter model so of course we want a portrait of one of the breed's historically important horses ❤️
We would love Greyhound! Even better if we could get a sulky too!
Love a grey horse and he's a historic figure
Greyhound is legend - an amazing horse, of which we will never see again. I very much want a model of this horse made by Breyer. I was even more motivated for this wish after reading Cheryl L. Eriksen's book, Greyhound. It would be a beautiful much sought after model.
