More and more cars on our street are electric so we get a lot of contention for use of the lampposts. Plus, the cost of the electricity at the lamppost ranges from 49p - 85p per KWh. Using domestic electricity would cost less that 10p with a cheap overnight rate. This would be both greener and cheaper.

A smart idea & will make ownership of an EV a viable option. With no ‘dropped kerbs’ being approved to enable off-street parking , this makes a lot of sense and removes a barrier to purchase an EV.

I’ve just switched to a plugin hybrid. I wanted to test feasibility of an EV when I don’t have access to home charging. Bottom line is it is more expensive to run using a lamppost charger than using petrol plus we only have 4 chargers on the street and they are frequently in use or not working. I contacted the borough and got sent a pro forma email with their arguments which all run counter to the central government guidance.

Because in order to encourage fully the take up of electric cars, owners should be able to charge their cars using domestic electricity which is far less expensive than lamp post or freestanding chargers.

We’ve had an electric car for 5 years —and in that time little has changed in access to cheap public charging in the borough. It would be fantastic if the council got on board like other councils with home charging & cable gully’s. This would make such a difference to those who currently have electric cars and encourage others to change sooner to electric by making charging an affordable option.

We bought an EV this year. For the last 6 weeks, 2 out of 4 lamppost chargers near us have not been working despite promises by Shell to fix. It’s also unhelpful when inconsiderate Ev owners leave their cars plugged in for days! There are uneven pavements, lifted kerbs and slabs, bumpy tree roots all round our neighbourhood, which are as much a trip hazard as a covered cable would be. The council is hiding behind ‘safety’ as a reason for not allowing these gullies. We have to do something about
