Kawanthissa was not merely an elephant. He was a magnificent symbol of Sri Lanka's natural heritage, admired for his extraordinary stature, beautiful tusks, and the wild beauty he represented.
Reports indicate that Kawanthissa sustained gunshot injuries and subsequently died on 16 October 2026 despite receiving veterinary treatment. His death has left wildlife lovers across the country mourning the loss of an irreplaceable animal
