Is It Safe to Sign an Online Petition?
Yes — on iPetitions, signing is designed to be safe and reversible. You don’t create an account, your email is used to verify that your signature is real, your name is public only if you choose, and you can unsubscribe or withdraw your signature at any time.
What happens when you sign

iPetitions has hosted petitions since 1999. Signing subscribes you to nothing except the campaign you chose to support.
Will I get spam if I sign a petition?
Not from iPetitions. Signing a petition here triggers one thing: the verification message that confirms the signature is really yours (with at most two reminders if you haven’t confirmed). After that, the only emails connected to your signature are updates from that one campaign, and those are capped: an organizer can email supporters at most once every 24 hours and three times in any week, and every update carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
Signing does not subscribe you to a newsletter or any promotional email, and your email address is never displayed on the petition page.
Does it cost money to sign?
No. Signing is free, on every petition. After you sign you may see an optional prompt to donate — that donation supports the iPetitions platform, not the petition’s cause, and skipping it changes nothing about your signature. There is no paid tier for signers and no charge to have your signature counted or delivered.
Who sees my name and email?
Your email address is never shown publicly — it exists to verify your signature and deliver the updates you stay subscribed to. Your name appears on the petition’s public signature list only if you leave that choice on: you can untick it, or sign anonymously, and the public page shows “Anonymous” instead. What organizers may do with signer information is governed by our Terms and Privacy Policy.
Can I remove my signature?
Yes. If a signature was submitted with your email address but not by you, the verification email includes an “I didn’t sign this” link that cancels it in one click — nothing else required. To withdraw a signature you did make, contact us and we will remove it.
One more safeguard: unverified signatures don’t count toward a petition’s verified total. Verification is what keeps petition numbers honest — for you and for the decision-maker reading them.
