Run Skytrain 24 Hours

Petition to: TransLink and Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority and Coast Mountain Bus Company Ltd. and British Columbia Rapid Transit Company(aka: Skytrain) to run the Skytrain system for 24 (twenty four) hours per day 7 (seven) days per week. On Translinks Annual Report, it states: -\"Translinks transportation plan recognizes the importance of providing attractive transit service that provide a viable alternative to single occupant vehicle use and improve the efficiency of the road network for the movement of goods and people.\" - 5 consecutive years of annual operating surpluses based on 165 million \"revenue passengers.\" - Spending went DOWN because of lower bus fuel and vehicle costs, lower contract costs for lease of commuter rail track, and federal gas tax funding help offset new vehicle costs. - Made $863,564,000 in revenue in 2006 Expenses were only $635,089,000 -------------------------------------------------------------- It would cost very little to keep the skytrain running 24 hours (only 4.5 hours more per night) Even if they ran the trains every 20-30 minutes between 1am and 5:30am. Keeping the train running 24 hours would keep more vehicles out of the downtown core at night and would likely cut drinking and driving by a substantial amount because people could take skytrain home for $2.25 instead of a $50+ cab ride home (if the cabs want to drive you that far in the first place) or driving home intoxicated in their cars.
