Safety is a major concern of many people who use SE 34th Ave between Clinton St. and Division St. There is not enough room for a bicycle and a vehicle to safely pass along this heavily traveled bikeway connector to and from the Clinton St. Bikeway.
With 156 hard copy signatures already, a letter from the Richmond Neighborhood Association acknowledging the overwhelming safety concerns of neighborhood residents and those who demand changes made before a serious accident occurs, Commissioner Novick and Portland Bureau of Transportation should seriously consider the following:
1) Create a northbound one way driving lane for cars and bicycles.
2) Remove parking on the west side of the street and create a southbound counter flow bicycle lane (net loss of 5 parking spots).
3) Assess the risks present at the intersections of 34th & Clinton and 34th & Division to determine what solutions are possible to separate pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers. Consider reducing crosswalk lengths, surface treatment and better marking.
LET'S ALL MAKE THIS A BETTER PLACE!!!
