Self-Service Gas in Oregon
Updates
August 25, 2008
I am currently compiling the feedback from those who signed to prepare a formal brief for the state legislature. This document will highlight the demand for operational changes at fuel stations across the region.

The scale of this response has secured a meeting with stakeholders to discuss legislative language for self-service fuel options. I am currently finalizing the policy briefing that will be presented to the committee next cycle.

I don't want to take jobs away, I would just like the OPTION to pump my own gas. I know that 95% of Oregonians will still remain in their vehicles and have the attendants pump their fuel, which is great – jobs kept! But for the small percentage of us who would rather pump our own gas (because of locking fuel doors/caps, fuel spillage/cleanup, etc), why not give us the OPTION to do so? Makes sense to me.
I own two classic cars and would deeply love to be able to pump my own gas. Most people pumping my gas don't do it right. I've had gas spilled down the side of my truck or car multiple times or they will damage my paint. They do not apreicate your vehicle most of the time and it's just a job to most of them. Why have a job where someone is breathing in gas fumes on a regular basis. It would also reduce the line and less people sitting idle in their vehicles waiting to get their gas pumped.
Self service saves us from dealing wiht drunk and disorderly gas station attendants. It is a good thing.

Needed to do this for decades.
It is a waste of my time to wait for someone to come to me to put my card into the pump, start it walk away and help many others as my pump shuts off and I'm waiting again for that attendant to come back to remove the nozzle. I am more than capable of doing this myself. It's an awful waste of time which is costly to the station and the consumer.
Oregon is a wonderful state, but this stupid law drives me crazy. The supposed reasons for the law make little sense. It's a wonder that Oregonians put up with a law based on the idea that they are stupid.
I would revise the law so people have the choice to pay for full service or save money and time using self service.
I want the freedom to put the gas I pay for in the car I paid for. I don't want someone I don't know doing anything with my car unless they are a certified car expert. We can create jobs some other way that does not restrict the freedoms of rightful customers and property owners.
I fully support this. Please consider Senate Bill 161.

I earned money going to school working in service stations and there are to many people struggling today to end jobs plus it is a safety factor I see people smoking and cars running
