We, the undersigned, urge Walmart to expand its Hobbs Walmart Supercenter to feature an on-site gas station.

While we strongly encourage Walmart to be the operator of the fuel station, we would welcome Murphy USA.

For years, Hobbs-area consumers have paid prices 10 to 75 cents higher than many cities in the region and throughout New Mexico. A major difference between Hobbs and those cities is that Hobbs does not have a Walmart gas station, which has a fuel-supply chain different from other gas stations.

We believe in private-sector solutions, and we believe competition is healthy. A Walmart-operated fuel station in Hobbs, along with its fuel supply, like those in neighboring Artesia, Roswell, Odessa and Lubbock, will provide relief for many working families and will actually promote local commerce and community goodwill.
