Please support Halifax's bid to host the Canadian National Portrait Gallery by signing this petition. The petition will be forwarded/delivered to all municipal politicians in Halifax, the corresponding provincial and federal representatives too. This is an important and worthy venue of the arts in Canada and internationally. Atlantic Canada has a vibrant cultural sector that is unmatched anywhere in the world. There are so many aspects to portraiture but the most important one is that it tells a story of a person but in this case, the opportunity to tell the national story of a people. That story should be told from the oldest region of the country: Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is a great opportunity. Let's go for it! Here is a link to a December 19, 2007 news story: http://www.hfxnews.ca/index.cfmsid=90817&sc=89 And the Government of Canada press release that outlines the details of their Request for Proposal: http://www.pch.gc.ca/newsroom/index_e.cfmfuseaction=displayDocument&DocIDCd=CJV070928 I invite you to sign this petition today! Patricia Durrett, United States7 years ago Comments: This is a worthy project that would be a tremendous plus for Halifax. Support this vision and support the arts.
Ian Johnson, Canada7 years ago Comments: I think that Halifax would be a very appropriate place to hold a National Portrait Gallery. We have a vibrant arts community and many long established and varied communities in this province and region. Such a Gallery would have tremendous resources from which to grow and expand. It would be an obvious and natural location to help launch and further develop this form of expression and artistic pursuit. For all these reasons, a Canadian National Portrait Gallery should be located in Halifax.
