Presidents Climate Commitment at Kalamazoo College

We, the undersigned students, faculty and staff call upon Kalamazoo College to take immediate steps towards mitigation of global climate change. We believe our institution has the creativity, progressive community base and diversity of skills necessary to confront this challenge. It is now widely understood that society must reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% as soon as possible to avoid unprecedented climate changes and prevent millions, if not billions, of people from suffering the worst effects of our changing climate. As members of the campus community, we know that Kalamazoo College students, faculty and staff possess a sense of enlightened leadership, and a commitment to social and environmental responsibility. A commitment to making K\' a leader in the fight against climate change will underscore this sense of mission on campus. Therefore, we request that President Eileen Wilson-Oyelaran sign the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment. It is the sort of commitment that is necessary for Kalamazoo College to become a leading institution in addressing this important issue.

This petition is sponsored by the Environmental & Sustainability Pre-Guild. Guild membership consists of students, faculty, and alumni at Kalamazoo College.

I feel that I can speak for many of my fellow classmates when i say this is a natural continuation of what we hope K can become and i believe that if we were on campus we would push equally as hard for this as we did for LEED
