Sign this petition in hopes of alerting Prime Minister Stephen Harper in our wishes to help Burma. As a prosperous Western country, we are not doing enough to help Burma.
As Canadians we are entitled, to freedom of opinion, expression, thought, association, security, life and belief. It is our duty to protect those who are not given the same rights.
âSince the Burmese military took control of the country in 1988, Canada has imposed sanctions, implemented visa bans on senior military officials, and repeatedly voiced its concerns over the junta's poor human rights record and draconian measures to clamp down on pro-democracy efforts.â-Bay Area World Trade Center.
That is not enough, PM Harper needs to step up and stand up for the Burmese people. By Canada getting involved, we are showing the world that we will simply watch chaos we will step up to our responsibilities and do what is right!

Whatâs Burma
It is a small Asian country, that is ruled by corrupt military officials.
Whatâs the deal with Burma
Recently the government (Junta) has increased fuel prices by 400%, they have invoked a country wide curfew, and they have shut down the bandwidth (ability to access internet). Last year they (Junta) increased the price of basic commodities like bread, oil and rice by 20%.
Burmese monks begun peacefully protesting this injustice, some groups larger than 2 000. Within one day 3000 people were arrested, 1000 of them were monks. A report in the Daily Mail states that "thousands of protesters are dead and the bodies of hundreds of executed monks have been dumped in the jungle".
Government in Burma
Yes there is a government in Burma. At the moment the military Junta rule, they are criminal, corrupt and govern with brutality. In 1990 Aung San Suu Kyi ran for Prime Minister and won with over 89% of the votes. The Junta annulled the election and took power, they have been ruling ever since.
