Whereas, humans have a history of saving and sharing seeds that have created and supported civilizations for over 10,000 years; and
Whereas seed libraries are a nonprofit repository of seed for the benefit of the
public where free seed is distributed to promote seed sharing and seed
education, provide increased access to healthy food, strengthen local food and
seed security, improve the health of our community members, preserve and
promote our local biodiversity, celebrate local varieties that are important to our community's cultural heritage and provide seed that is adapted to local soils and changing climate; and
Whereas seed libraries represent a local expression of seed sovereignty, allowing communities to conserve, preserve, and grow local seed diversity; and
Whereas seed libraries do not engage in the sale of seeds or present any risks to the commercial seed business or to agriculture; and
Whereas seed libraries are a natural extension of the role of public libraries, nonprofit organizations and educational institutions in promoting the free and
widespread availability of knowledge, education and cultural literacy; and
Therefore be it resolved that the 2015 International Seed Library Forum considers the creation and operation of seed libraries an important component of our nation's food and agricultural system; and
Be it further resolved that the 2015 International Seed Library Forum supports the adoption and development of seed libraries into communities around the world.

Watching this count climb reminds me of the small garden beds my grandmother tended when I was a child. We are nearly at our goal and the officials are finally paying attention to our request. Please send this link to a few neighbors who care about our future food security.

Watching this count climb brings me back to the garden my grandmother kept and the simple joy of passing down those heirloom seeds. We are hovering right at the cusp of one hundred signatures so please send this to someone new to help us hit that milestone today.

Even if you believe GMO is safe we can not put all our eggs in one basket. Science is fallible. Please allow everyone to experience the joy of growing food that they might understand the blessing it is. If children know they can grow food they are more likely to eat and enjoy their healthy creation. Money should not be a factor since the seeds are from the earth and God.
Seed libraries are an essential part of the effort to maintain garden crop seed diversity to insure contiinued food production into the future.
serious;y. the easier we make it for people to connect with their food. no matter what the income level is. the better.
who knows what climate change will bring. We need to save a vast variety of seeds to meet the challenges of the future.
Life. Seeds. Something so essential needs to be available at a public FREE library. It provides access to healthy food, strengthens local food networks and economy, preserves biodiversity, and facilitates resilience ... which we sorely need in a world which is globally warming.
This law is brazenly unconstitutional in it's current application to inhibit SEED SHARING. This law was written to protect against the SELLING OF BAD SEED by dealers. Whoever is behind this misapplication needs to be identified and condemned publicly and stopped! Seed sharing is our birthright.

As a farmer, I am aware that seed improvements and protections have been done by farmers and gardeners since planting began. It would be immoral to take seeds out of the hands of the people, plain and simple.
