Glasgow is the only major city in the UK not to have its own ice rink. This sport is enjoyed by people of all ages and, if the Sports Council of Glasgow is willing to subsidise sports like hockey, tennis, swimming and basketball then why won't they subsidise ice skating When I wrote asking them to build a rink they replied offering to give me advice on other sports I could take up -big deal!

Margaret Wallace Long, United Kingdom1 year ago Comments: I cannot believe we still do not have an all year ice rink in the city. Braehead closes its doors to skaters during the summer holidays and is not available all the time for the rest of the year. We need a dedicated rink open all year round as other cities have. My grandchildren live west of Glasgow and it is too far to take them to other venues in Lanarkshire. We want to encourage children and young people into sport and recreational activities such as tennis and skating which are not properly catered for.
