Patients and patient centered care are at the core of a high quality, effective, safe, timely, efficient and equitable health care system and we know that when patients have access to data the make better health care decisions.
In order to have a transparent, participatory, lean and collaborative healthcare system - where patients are co-creators of their own health we need to have full and open access to our health care data.
Under federal law, every patient or a designated representative has the right to see and copy the patient's medical records but this access is often delayed or cost prohibitive.
We therefore call upon both the public and private sectors to "FREE OUR HEALTH DATA" to patients and provide them with the same access to their health care records as other members of their healthcare team.
