We, the undersigned, call on the governments of Zanzibar and Tanzania to ensure that the general elections in Zanzibar of 2005 are free and fair. We also call on all parties to the elections to ensure that all political activities during this time are peaceful and within the law, to accept the democratic wishes of the people of Zanzibar, and to work together in a spirit of compromise for the benefit of all citizens and in the name of peace, stability and democracy. We finally call on the International community to use their influence to pressure the governments of Zanzibar and Tanzania conform to the principles of human rights and democracy.
