Thank you to everyone who signed our previous online petition (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/introduce-more-plant-based-food-options-into-santa) and thank you to those who signed our hard-copy petition. We were able to gather a total of more than 800 signatures!

We are happy to announce that after a year of collective efforts we were able to accomplish our first goal. Campus Kitchen, one of SMC's cafeteria vendors, has implemented more plant-based options on their lunch menu! Which means you now have more options(making it easier to choose a sustainable diet)!!!

Our next goal, is to get you to support Campus Kitchen and show them that we are serious about supporting businesses who listen to their customers and care about our environment. So next time you want to grab a bite to eat on campus check out Campus Kitchen (right across the cafeteria coffee shop) and let them know you are their for their plant-based options :)

We are already working on our third goal, which is to bring Samosa House (a local, veg-friendly Indian restaurant) into our campus cafeteria. Currently, inside our cafeteria, there is an empty, up-for-grabs, space for a food vendor to fill. We want SMC to decide on Samosa House as the new food vendor to be added to our cafeteria. Our goal is to offer even more on-campus, plant-based food options so let's make it known that Samosa House is who the SMC community wants. Sign our new petition to support the cause; because, remember consuming less animal products is the healthier choice.

On the behalf of the students of Santa Monica College and all supporters, in allegiance with SMC's Corsairs for Animal Rights & Ethics (CARE) Club, we petition for Samosa House to be selected as the next food vendor to be introduced into our SMC campus cafeteria. We want more plant-based food options on campus and Samosa House can do that for us.

[To have more plant-based food options, on SMC's campus, would bring about a number of benefits that would affect:

Environmental Sustainability

"Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean dead zones, and virtually every other environmental ill." -Cowspiracy

Consumer Health

"It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes." -American Dietetic Association

The well being of animals. ]

Samosa House has already done what they could, to be included as an option for when our administration and decision-makers select a food vendor (who is to be placed in that empty cafeteria space). Now, let's do our part! Sign today and spread the news (share the petition's link: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/bring-samosa-ho... ).

Let's work together to further establish SMC as the sustainable campus we thrive to be.
