The Puget Sound has 14 million tons of pollution enter it annually. This pollution has caused the orcas that make up the three pods which live in the Puget Sound to be the most contaminated animals in the world. When they die they are considered toxic waste and disposed of at a hazardous waste site. The fish we catch in the Sound also are affected by the pollutants in the water. When we eat them, it affects us. There are several proven methods to reduce stormwater pollution (the main contributor of pollution in the Sound.) These include; rain gardens, green roofs and permeable concrete. These methods are not unknown, so why aren't we using them? I ask you, reader, please sign this petition. This petition as well as a written one from schools in Seattle will be sent to our governor, Jay Inslee, asking him to give incentives, such as tax rebates and the awarding of state contracts, to people and businesses who build rain gardens, green roofs, and install permeable concrete. The change needs to be made sometime and by someone. That time is right now. That someone is you. Please sign for a better future of the Puget Sound.`
