The state Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation plan calls for the closure of West River Parkway to motor vehicles and transformation of it into a bike trail.

The trail on Grand Island, which would stretch from Beaver Island State Park to Buckhorn State Park, would complete a large bike and walking path from Buffalo to Niagara Falls,

Sadly, the Town Board voted 3-2 to not support the state park’s bike bath proposal. The impact of this vote is unclear, because we do not have jurisdiction over state land. They can use it however they wish.

We are all proud of the changes to the Buffalo waterfront. We need to extend those changes to Grand Island with a green path along our river. Help Grand Island. Contact the town board and tell them they are not representing your interests. Tell them we want to bike and walk safely with our families along the river.

Please sign this petition if you are a Grand Island Resident and want this project, then share this on Facebook, in email, on Twittter, snapchat, instagram, reddit, on messenger. We need everyone who wants this project to sign this. Our voices are needed to prove the town board that they DO NOT speak for the majority of Islanders.

Imagine...No more 55 mile an hour vehicles (more like 65-70) flying past families on bikes just a foot away. A SAFE, wide, walking and biking path for the entire Island to enjoy.

I bike with my 3 year old in tow and do not feel safe on the street. People do not move over enough while driving. I have been almost clipped too many times. I now only use the bike path and would love for it to extend farther.

I support the parkway being closed to convert to a bike path. I think the state needs to adjust the number and/or locations of the parking lots, placing one between the service road and the parkway at Love Road is just stupid.

I grew up on Grand Island on Fix Road near the parkway. I now own my own home on Grand Island. I love the idea of a bike path connecting our two state parks. I have two children of my own and would love to be able to take them for long walks down by the river!

I'm a West River homeowner and I'm in favor of transforming the high speed West River parkway into a mixed use bike and recreation trail. It will be nice to walk to the river without the danger of being hit by a car driving 60 miles per hour.

I am a resident of West River and I oppose the bike path. If I wanted to live near a park I would of bought a home near a park. I like the peace, quiet and privacy West River has to offer and the bike path will put an end to that. If you want to enjoy West River, buy a home here.

I would love to be able to safely bike with my family along the water. Why is the board turning down an opportunity to connect buffalo to Niagara Falls? Shame on the board for not realizing the potential of the opportunity the state is giving GI.

This would be safer and me and my father work out biking around the island but there is only so far you can go with this New bike path it would increase are work out time and instead of going are 8 mile bike ride to bever island then half to turn around we would go all the way down the new bike path
