"Zero Tolerance Must Go"
We are Petitioning the Owners and Operators of "Achievement First Endeavor Charter School" to Stop Implementing a New Zero Tolerance Policy upon our Children while enrolled at the School. This policy is AFFECTING OUR CHILDRENS' MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH. It is also affecting their Grades. Since Mr. Tom Kaiser took over as Principal of the School he has been placing some of the children in Detention after School for some of the most unfair, trivial, and discriminating policies ever put in place at School. Parents have had several meeting with the Staff/Principal/ board member(s) at Achievement First Endeavor to voice our grievances over this issue. Our pleas have fallen upon deaf ears because nothing has been done to date about it. The nature of this complaint falls under Education Law Section 2855(4), which is part of the Charter Schools Act,which provides a Parent or any other Individual or Entity who believes that a Charter School has violated its Charter or the Law governing that Charter and seek relief. The School is not Operating 100% capacity using a different Policy than the one distributed to Parents. Parents are given a "Booklet" with Rules that are very different from the Rules being implemented on the Students everyday in class.Sort of like an unwritten policy; we'll show the Parents this booklet but, we'll have another booklet for the Teachers to use in the classroom ! We, the Parents of Students attending this School would Ask that the "ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY" be STOPPED AT ONCE. It is causing our children be held after school in Detention for 1 hour, for trivial matters, and it is Discriminatory and Unfair to the children and Parents. Your School's Operating Agreement has provisions related to handling legitimate complaints. It imposes certain requirements, but also provides needed flexibility as follows: The School Corporation shall implement and maintain a policy to receive and handle complaints brought pursuant to subdivision 2855(4) of the Education Law. Initially, such policy shall be that policy set forth in the Terms of Operations. The School Corporation shall have the power to amend the "zero Tolerance"Policy in any way it deems necessary and appropriate, so long as, such amendment(s) are approved by the School Board and are consistent with applicable law and due process. If any Parent or Family member of Students at this Charter School Agrees with this Complaint Please Support us by Signing the Petition.
