Michigan's children are the future of our state, and preparing them for the future should be a high priority for all of us. After all, the children of today are the nurses, scientists and engineers of tomorrow. A growing body of research shows the importance of brain development in the first five years of a child life and how it can impact a child's success in school and in life.
It is disappointing to see that when the economy is suffering we make children suffer. They do not choose poverty and depend on the playgroups, home visitors and parenting education. Would we take a bottle from a hungry baby
Very important programs are funded by 0-3 secondary prevention/ early childhood prevention funding and Great Parents Great Start 32j funding. This funding provides for needed parent education, playgroups and home visits that our children desperately depend on.
Please reinstate funding for these vital programs.
The stories shared in the comments reflect a deep commitment to the early years of development that define our children. I am currently compiling your experiences into a formal summary to present to the decision makers who hold the future of these programs in their hands.
