Historically the Hare Krishna Movement (ISKCON) has had an unacceptably high
tolerance for child abuse. This has created an environment where, Hare Krishna children have been a soft target for sex offenders.
There is an urgent need to raise the bar for child protection
standards and to enforce stronger sanctions against perpetrators.
At present the Hare Krishna Child Protection Office (CPO) is subordinate to the Governing Body Commission (GBC).
The GBC hires
and fires the CPO director as and when they see fit. Decisions on important
cases still require the approval of the GBC. The present model has proven to be problematic and ineffective.
The CPO body needs to work in cooperation with the GBC, but it needs to be completely independent, transparent and accountable to the devotee public. Something similar to the way the BBT is structured.
The CPO needs adequate funding, manpower and resources. The director of the CPO needs to be able to avail of the support and experience of professionals in the field of child
protection; have the full support of the greater devotee community and a good grasp of the history.
This can only be achieved with the blessings and support of the Vaisnava community at large.
Please lend your voice for the formation of an independent Child Protection Body, and to allocate 1% of the TOVP revenue towards the protection of Srila Prabhupada's children.
The results of this petition will be published on www.krishachildren.com, forwarded to the GBC and the CPO.

The climb toward one hundred signatures is slow and the silence from leadership is heavy. We need that milestone quickly to move the needle on this protection office restructuring. Push this link to someone who needs to hear the truth about these children today.

The fact that we have to sign a petition in order to have this zero-tolerance, years after the first wave of abuse was reported, the fact that it's not already enforced, is an indignation for ISKCON. The leaders should be ashamed of themselves.
This has gone on too long and should be properly addressed and dealt with by people who are qualified and capable...and all who run the Child Protection team should be a department apart..completely seperate and not answeable to any authority
Tolerating child abuse undermines the basic human dignity of the victims and is in stark contrast to the values outlined in the Gita. Please do right by the most vulnerable members of society and police child abuse in ISKCON with a no-tolerance policy.
I have kids and many times thought of raising them in gurukul. I have heard from few devotees in past about this child abuse and i never thought so serious as now u clearly explained and showed.Good luck keep up your good work.Hare Krishna.
The structuring of the CPO as you suggested seems appropriate and very much needed. ISKCON should focus as much resources as necessary for protecting Krishna''s children. This should be the greatest priority. Thank you. Hare Krishna
Pedophiles are already running the US and Christianity we don’t need them in ISKCON. They can go pray on their own for forgiveness from Krishna. This type of behavior is not at all acceptable under Srila Prabhupada’s name. It is not ahimsa. Causing lifelong trauma to children is an unforgivable act. May justice be swift and served under the guidance of Lord Shani.
How come there are not more signatures? I’m shocked how little our society seems to not care about child abuse.

The standards of mundane law regarding child abuse are the minimum level that devotees should act on. When even these are flaunted on a regular basis, those permitting and covering up the abuse can hardly be considered human beings, much less devotees.
