This petition is not only important for the many visitors to our area, but also for us, the residents, who will be dealing with parking challenges on a regular basis. Parking in this area is already extremely challenging at peak times (wkds, summer, market days, event days, during construction), and now there is a safety concern as well. Even using the crosswalks presents safety issues, as many motorists drive at higher speeds along this road and many do not stop for pedestrians, even at a marked crossing. With the majority of residents on the north side, and with the majority of visitors wishing to access the north side, many with children, permitting parking on the north side is the safest and most logical choice. Heavy pedestrian crossings on 5th Avenue on an increased basis is going to increase potential for accidents. It is unfortunate that the city elected to move forward with this design without properly, or considerately, notifying or consulting residents.

I am a 68 year, inner-City, born-and-raised Calgarian, with over 50 years in the Kensington/Sunnyside areas, who owns revenue properties on the North side of 5th Ave. I was not notified of "No Parking" on the North Side of 5th Avenue. After being advised by another resident, I expressed my opposition to Alderman Farrell's Office about "No Parking" on the North side of 5th Ave. I'm not against bicycle lanes but if there is "No Parking", what if my tenants are carrying groceries or their visitors are carrying items.. or people are carrying stuff to Riley Park, keeping track of toddlers/babies in strollers, etc. and are forced to cross back and forth across 5th Ave., I believe someone will be seriously injured or killed. Also as I said to Alderman Farrell's Office, where are moving vans supposed to park, when residents move in and out or where are vehicles to park if I need work done (e.g. new roof) or appliances replaced (e.g. fridge/stove, etc.)?.

Increase pedestrian safety, especially children, by leaving the parking on the north. Smart planning would be allowing parking on the side people are going to - the north. Please listen to the community

Parking is already very limited in this area. Having to park on the south side of the street and crossing a very busy street to get to Riley Park is just going to create a more dangerous situation for pedestrians.

I strongly agree. This process on the subject from start to today has shown a true lack of transparency, communication & diligent process to what our community has aspired to for years. I would also voice that a proper crosswalk for 'all' to access the park on 10th St NW from 5th Ave (east side) is highly overdue! Safety is becoming another 'real issue' .

Please know that area residents are not impressed with your lack of consultation and that you have chosen the wrong side of the street to even contemplate adding a bike lane. You should also start ticketing cyclists who don't use the bike lanes on 10 but use the sidewalk instead at incredible speed and disregard to pedestrians
