We, the undersigned, support a material reuse program to be institutionalized at the Yale School of Architecture. At the end of semesters, an inordinate amount of usable material gets thrown out in the rush to move out, only to be replaced by more materials bought by students in the next semester. We request a system be instituted where usable materials are picked up and maintained twice a year by the YSOA Sustainability Task Force, a group of YSOA students dedicated to enhancing sustainability at the school. By instating Material Reuse Storage (MRS) on each of the studio floors, students will save money and time on purchasing supplies. In addition to the monetary savings for the students, there will be environmental benefits from diverting materials from the trash and giving them new life as resources for future students. As students in the field of architecture, it is imperative to be cognizant of the environmental impacts of what we use. A Material Reuse program is a simple way of providing a beneficial service for the students, as well as an opportunity for YSOA to join other architecture schools in promoting sustainability. Sincerely, The Undersigned
