September 23, 2007 We, the undersigned, are shocked and appalled by the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety intimidation tactics and its shocking order to shutter a congregation during prayer services on Yom Kippur; the holiest day of the Jewish faith. This was NOT an issue of safety of the congregants or the community. This was an attempt by the City of Los Angeles to silence those that choose to pray on the holiest day of the Jewish year. We call upon the Department of Justice Civil Rights Criminal Section to investigate this blatant abuse of power by the City of Los Angeles and trampling on the constitutionally protected rights of its citizens. We further call upon all civic minded citizens to call their elected representatives (Local, State and Federal) to protest this shocking action.

The silence from the city offices has been deafening since this began. I am exhausted by the constant stonewalling but I am not burying this investigation until someone takes real accountability for what happened during the holiday.

Reaching this point has been an exhausting uphill climb but seeing the momentum grow gives me the resolve to keep pushing forward. I am drained by the resistance we face yet the sheer scale of the backing here proves we cannot be ignored. We are not turning back until there is accountability for this.

Disgusting behavior. There is a time and place for everything and Yom Kippur is definitely not the time to harass people praying.

This is completely wrong. You dont just walk into a place of worship on the holy day and shut it down. Absolute disgrace to this city.

What happened to religious freedom? LA officials need to be held accountable for this mess. Keep prayer safe.

Total abuse of power. I have never heard of anything so insane in my life. Someone needs to answer for this!
