STOP Monument under Forest Service Management
Dear Secretary Vilsack and Members of Congress, The Department of Agriculture is considering a Draft Management Plan that will allow logging within the Giant Sequoia National Monument. It will be heartbreaking if damaging logging is allowed to harm this unique Monument. The ill-conceived logging of smaller trees will ruin the ecosystem that the Sequoias depend on. Logging will make the forest in the Monument drier, and more susceptible to fire and climate change. We urge you to reject the current draft plan, and instead adopt a new plan mandating that the Monument's ecosystems be managed like the adjacent Sequoia National Park. We urge you to preserve this Monument for future generations. We urge you to use your position to protect the Giant Sequoia National Monument.
