I tried to trust the process for the third season of Yellowjackets, but this season just ended up being bad. First, the people of color on this show were treated horribly (the writing has always been weird, but this season especially). The writing was terrible, with all of the characters being turned into plot devices and losing what the show was about in the first place. Also, the production felt different in this season in comparison to the first two seasons, and the wigs used this season were bad. I honestly don’t know where the show can even go unless there is a full remake of season 3. Maybe some new writers (or showrunners?) are needed to treat the characters with respect and remember the themes of the show, and what the show is actually about. And, while the events of the show are violent, sensitivity is needed while writing.

The actors of this show all did a phenomenal job this season, but they deserve better material for the characters they’ve worked so hard to bring to life. These characters are three-dimensional; they are not plot devices. Sure, some writing choices this season can be forced to fit into other plotlines. Still, at the end of the day, most of the season feels badly written. I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that this season wasn’t the best. I have a document detailing how the season could have gone. Yellowjackets could be something amazing if the show can remember its purpose.

We deserve a remake of Season 3, with normal lighting in the wilderness, good wigs, better writing for the characters, and for the overarching plot. We need Season 1 level Production. This is a show that is supposed to contain themes of dealing with trauma, friendship, and the complex relationships between the girls in adolescence and adulthood. This is not supposed to be a show where the characters are going up against a cartoon villain. There is so much that could have been explored, but shock value was prioritized instead. Now, let’s work together to get this story back on track.
