Mission school district is considering implementing a year-round school schedule. As I see it, this idea has several major flaws: -It prevents students from securing summer jobs, as the holidays are not long enough to allow employers to hire students. -It seriously hampers the ability of students to pursue community activities and hobbies, due to the shortened holidays which prevent extended time commitments. -It prevents student from going on vacation and doing family activities, which are crucial to the development of a well rounded individual. -Further, parents are more likely to take vacations during school time, which negatively affects the learing process. I am sure there are others who agree with me. Once I have at least 2,000 signatures, I will present this petition to the school board and any other applicable agency. If we work together, we can prevent this from happening.
