The 1 MEF Commanding General has decided the LVT at the entrance to Camp Del-Mar on Camp Pendleton must be removed. This LVT provides a sense of pride and heritage to all Amphibious Assault personnel whom pass it on a daily basis. This particular vehicle paved the way for the Amphibious Assault element for the Marine Corps. It would be ashamed if this historical LVT, which has stood as a reminder of the sacrifices made by generations of Amtrackers before us. I respectfully ask the Commanding General reconsider this action in an attempt to preserve the history and the heritage this LVT bestows upon Camp Pendleton, not just for the Amtrack community, but the Marine Corps as a whole.
Discussions regarding the proposed removal of the LVT are ongoing behind the scenes as we seek a formal audience with base leadership. The historical value of this monument remains the primary focus of our efforts to ensure it stays in its rightful place.
