The West Yorkshire Police Command Team have made the decision to remove the WYBPA funding, office and the BPA Coordinators post. The BPA has 2 aims that is to eliminate race discrimination within West Yorkshire Police and to provide a support network for the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) personnel. Aims that I am sure you will agree have not been achieved although much progress has been made by combined efforts of the force with the support and assistance of the BPA. Removal of the above will have a massive adverse impact on the support we offer to our colleagues.
The Co-ordinator currently is supporting upto 8 members of staff some whom have no support from other staff associations and Unions and a number of these members are facing impending Employment Tribunals.
The removal of the funding, an office and the Coordinator post simultaneously will have a major impact on the community projects including our Natural Born Leaders programme. The programme not only gives young BME people leadership skills but also forges a stronger links between the Police and BME communities.

I honestly did not think this would gain this much steam so quickly and I am just floored by how many people care about the Natural Born Leaders program. It feels like the tide is finally turning and seeing all these names makes the stress of the impending tribunals feel a little less heavy somehow.

Really disappointed in the command team on this one. You cant just stop supporting minorities and expect everything to be fine. shameful.
Total disgrace. If they get rid of this they are just showing they dont care about equality at all.
so many staff depend on this office and the coordinator. dont leave them hanging during a tribunal!!
This is ridiculous. We need this support network now more than ever. Why cut funding to the only thing actually helping people in the force.
Keep the BPA funded. we need them.

The natural born leaders program is doing great work for our youth. dont destroy it over a budget decision. fix this.
