Now, I'm not sure how many of you are wrestling fans. So I can explain this to you. I realize the incident occurred a month or two ago, but with this time, I am infuriated that this man has still remained in his position.

In late August, Mexican-born wrestler Alberto Del Rio was fired from WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) for apparently being involved in an altercation with the company's Social Media Manager.

Later, it was revealed that Del Rio had slapped the manager after he made a racist joke and refused to apologize when Del Rio asked him to.

This is not the issue in itself. Rather, the Social Media Manager, Cody Barbierri's, behavior after the incident is what leads me to write this.

After the incident, Del Rio was originally only going to be suspended, but Barbierri threatened a lawsuit in order to get Del Rio fired. Later, Barbierri used WWE's corporate Twitter account to (shall I put it mildly) chastise Del Rio for "behaving unprofessionally". This went not only unpunished, but unnoticed up the WWE hierarchy. Barbierri even used his power over WWE's website to get the phrase "we wish him the best in his future endeavors" removed from Del Rio's official release statement.

In my mind, a man who displays the intolerance shown by Barbierri's racist joke toward Del Rio and the immature and petty abuse of his powers when he threatened the lawsuit and used the WWE (not his own!) Twitter account to run down Del Rio's "unprofessional behavior" should not be allowed such a high position in the ranks of a multibillion dollar company. Additionally, social media is one of the largest ways for companies to reach prospective customers, and immature tweets like Barbierri's can cause a ripple effect throughout all of social media, hurting WWE's viewers in the long run. Lastly, this is a poor example to set for WWE's largest fanbase: children. For a company who has devoted so much time and effort into its antibullying campaign, such mean-spirited things as Barbierri did to Del Rio after the incident can lead the children to negative mindsets in life.

I know many of us wrestling fans have raged at WWE's poor leadership but not realized that we could do something about it. Well now, we can. I am a college student from Tennessee and could not probably change WWE's opinion by myself. But with more people who share this opinion, we can make our voices heard together, and show WWE that what is truly "best for business" is the termination of their Social Media Manager Cody Barbierri.
