Mitigate Bird Strikes on WUSTL Campus!
Sign this petition to help prevent fatal bird strikes at WashU!
Bird strikes are a much bigger problem on campus than most people realize, but our group strives to make WashU a safer place for birds. By collecting data on bird strike hotspots in collaboration with the St. Louis Zoo, we will present a data-driven analysis to our administration to reduce bird strikes on campus.
More About Us
We are the Bird Strike Mitigation Team for the Sustainability Exchange course (EECE 412) at WashU. The team has been comprised of students across multiple semesters that have worked with members from the STL Zoo to patrol campus, log data, identify hotspots, and work to raise student awareness. Data on known hotspots and all strikes identified by the team can be found on iNaturalist. Although much of the newer buildings on campus have mitigation solutions already incorporated, there are existing locations where bird strikes routinely occur that must be addressed as soon as possible. Our team this semester is looking to use the data collected and our research on potential solutions, in tandem with student support through this petition, to urge WUSTL to remedy existing hotspots on campus.
