Since July 2008, the Wilford Suspension bridge was closed by Servern Trent Water. After many months of delay it has transpired that it could be until Autumn 2009, before it is reopened again. The survey which was carried out did not find any serious problems and we feel that the bridge could easily be opened earlier this summer, if there was a desire to do so on behalf of the Water Authorities. This bridge is a crucially important link for pedestrians and cyclists to get safely from West Bridgford to Victoria embankment (paddling pool and playground) the University, queens medical centre, major employers as well as into town. Many football and cricket spectators park their cars on the embankment and now have to walk over Trent Bridge to go to the major sporting events. Groups from across West Bridgford and the City have started this petition to present to Severn Trent Water.
