Will you write a letter to help Tom Dwyer Automotive?
The Sellwood Bridge project is coming to a close, but while the Bridge was a temporary inconvenience the next wave of construction could devastate our business.
Construction will start as early as July 2016 on an apartment building to our east across SE 6th Street, and later on apartments to our north across SE Tenino Street. Neither of these projects provide parking for all their tenants, and the resulting overflow could cost us the parking areas next to our building.
We do not own the parking areas our clients currently use. The Front Parking is actually the end of SE Tenino Street, and the Side Parking to the east is SE 6th Ave. Our clients have parked in these areas for over 30 years without incident or complaint, but both will be lost to us unless we take steps to preserve them.
Our clients need to have sufficient parking for our business to stay here, so we’ve hired an attorney to help. His advice was to reach out for letters supporting our company and the current parking situation. With your help we can apply to lease these areas from the City permanently.
We’d like to ask you to write a letter in support of our shop, explaining how our company fits into the Sellwood neighborhood and what impact there would be to you personally if we lost our parking and were forced to move. Anything you say will be appreciated, but there are specific areas the attorney said would be particularly useful if you feel suited to addressing them…
Long term relationship- The longer you’ve been a client the more your support could mean to the City. If your relationship with us extends to children or even grandchildren, that would be ideal.
30 years of Sellwood as home for our shop- Referencing the length of time we’ve been here helps establish us as an integral part of the neighborhood.
Will not trust anyone else- If you come to us because we’re the only shop you trust, then thank you. The City will want to know about this to help set us apart from other companies.
History of neighborhood support- We’ve supported Sellwood schools, sports teams, and events since we started. If that support has benefitted you, then the City would want to know about it.
Full service capability not available at other shops- One of the things the City looks for in strong neighborhoods is access to services. Full-service shops are rare, and losing our parking would cripple Sellwood’s access to full-service repair.
Examples of client service above and beyond- If you have any stories about times we’ve exceeded your expectations that would be a valuable point in our favor.
If you prefer email to letters you can reach us at TomDwyer@TomDwyer.com and we’ll include your email in our application package. Finally, if you’d like to help but don’t have time to write a letter or email, give us a call at 503-230-2300 and Charles will gladly take any time you need to help you put your thoughts into words.
Thank you so much for your support on this important issue!
