Dear ANMAC,

We are signing this petition because having a student midwife made a positive difference to our birth and we do not want to see continuity of care opportunities lost in the future. For us, having a student meant we had a familiar face for our pregnancy care – this was such a relief as often we would have a different midwife for every antenatal appointment. With a student, we had someone we trusted and who supported us through our pregnancy, birth and in those critical weeks postnatal.

Students bring a passion, dedication and sense of caring that is tangible and beneficial to us. Our partners and families appreciated their presence too – and it was always a relief to know that they would stay with us during our labour and birth.

We want the chance to support, and be supported by, the future midwives in Australia. Please do not stop continuity of care experiences in the midwifery curriculum.
