We the people of Western New York would like to see and hear better media coverage for amateur youth ice hockey in our newspapers, radio and television stations. Our contention is that the other amateur sports like football, baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, track and field get more print recognition in the Buffalo News and on TV and radio stations throughout the Buffalo and WNY areas. This region has always been a tremendous supporter of hockey, especially with the recent success of the Buffalo Sabres. Several local prospects have been having tremendous seasons in College and Junior Hockey the last few years. There has been some coverage regarding our prospects, but largely the hockey community has been ignored by the media, especially the Buffalo News. In order to find updates and scores of games we generally need to go to our local Hockey Talk Forum and hope someone with some connections will post the info we look for. Our hockey hotbed gets tremendous television ratings for our sport in our \"small market\" than any other \"large market\" in the USA. We have been able to attract USA Hockey National Hockey Tournaments here recently, bringing in teams from accross the country, which is a financial boon for our economy and yet our visitors cannot get results of other games or tournaments going on in other cities through our media outlets. How do we attract more amateur sports events if it doesn\'t get enough media coverage We need to spread the word about the newsworthy hockey events from youth through high school through college through juniors. Boys and Girls hockey alike. Girl\'s/Women\'s hockey is growing exponentially and more media attention would help its growth. With the internet, the news outlets can be a source of information to people accross the country who are supporters of amateur hockey, especially displaced WNY\'ers. We aren\'t asking for more than the other sports, just our fair share. Join us in this endeavor to obtain more media coverage for our local ice hockey community by signing this online petition.
