Witness to Flooring Damage @422 Broadway, Suit 202

Though Justin did everything he could to make the best of the flooring situation (covering up severely damaged areas with couches/plants and moving paneling together so it would not shift where students were practicing), wood flooring would still move during classes sometimes creating unsafe environment for students. There was one time I kicked up into handstand and lost control because the floor had moved as I jumped.

I have taught at Rise Yoga and Movement Arts Center over many years and loved the space. My last visit to Rise was in December 2017, where I immediately took note of an issue with the floors. You could see that some of the flooring had been replaced but unfortunately it was incredibly obvious due to the expansion and contraction, and color variance of the different aged woods. There were noticeable spaces between the boards so we had to avoid certain areas of that he room in order to avoid any injury. Visually it was distracting and it made the place seem much less professional.

The floor square footage that was lost is a minus to this business, never mind all the other factors that are legitimate loses.

I've been practicing since fall of 2016 and also ran into the issues with the floorboard. More than I can count I caught my toe, a finger or other part of my body in a floorboard gap or warping. It was always concerning to me as a new yoga student and sadly deterred me from pushing myself further in my practice. The team at Rise were consistently honest, professional and upbeat that they were working with their landlords to have this fix, it's just truly a shame and a disgrace that it had to come to this. I understand that there is a cost associated with the landlord fixing it, but by not taking action they've ruined a local business and the livelihood of a family in our community.

Floors are warped and separating

The buckled floors limited the space that was useable . It made for cramped conditions, adversely effecting customers.

Having been a student at this location I can attest to the flooring damage. And as a business owner myself I understand how something like this can affect the asstetic and feel of a location, and affect a buisnesss negatively.

I have paid for a life time membership for rise yoga. I am not able to practice in a safe environment dispite the business owner being willing and able to continue our agreement there place of business is unfit to practice by cirmunstances which appear to be the liability of the land lord

Aa a regular customer of the Rise studio, I witnessed the damage to the flooring and the subsequent disruption to classes. There were times when we couldn't fit enough people into class because everyone was avoiding the warped areas; and a couple of people mentioned to me that they would gladly return once the studio was back in working order.

Truly an unfortunate reason to have to close the doors of Rise. Such disregard to the beautiful space and studio is completely disheartening.

Certain floor space has been unable to be utilized. Yoga mats would have to be placed around the areas of damage and therefore the damaged areas took up space that more practitioners could have utilized, making the classes limited in space.

I had observed sections of warped flooring during each of my visits to Rise. Before each class I’d carefully scan the floor to make sure I had an optimal and safe place to practice. You can not practice yoga on an uneven floor. I would also observe the owners’ diligence in repairing the floor damage with new planks. However, new buckling would occur soon after repair. I am deeply saddened to learn that who I beleive is a local builder/owner would not stand behind their product and responsibly repair defects in their building structure to prevent further damage.

I am a member of Rise. During a weekend training in the winter of 2017 there was no heat in the studio. It disrupted the training. This event was student-paid and we lost time due to the "no-heat" situation and everyone was freezing.

It’s been a while since I was at Rise (7 mos maybe) but every time I went, from the beginning, it seemed like a leak had damaged some part of the beautiful hardwood floors.

In classes that particularly go across the floor, there are certain areas I must avoid and it makes the practice inefficient and results in a lack of a meditative state when I have to be focused on something disruptive and dangerous.

I have practiced on the floors when they have been in disrepair. The floor-boards were warped a lot in the past year. Practicing there regularly, I observed the floors in poor condition for weeks at a time in the last 6-12 months especially.

I taught a few classes in this space. I noticed that the flooring was loose in places which makes it unsafe. We had to work around it and make sure that students did not step or land on it.

I have been practicing at Rise since it was opened in 2014. This was the first year i have sadly not been a diligent student, as the warped floors made practicing incredibly difficult for me. Once i completed my teacher training, i basically had to stop practicing at the studio because it was such a hidnerance.

I taught three workshop series here and despite the students wanting to attend there were issues with leaks and the floor which affected attendance. This decreased the revenue significantly affecting my ability as well as the studio's ability to earn an income. Both the studio and I alike lost money due to the leaks and the flooring.

It was hard to practice there from the buckling of the floors.
