Withdraw Charlotte Rampling's Oscar Nomination
The Academy should always reflect actors & actresses who are subjective and un bias to performances. When an actor or actress's opinions are bias to another actor or actress's performance it creates ill will and creative hostility. The influence can then weigh very heavy on the voters and the voice of the viewers are left in the dark. With that said, Charlotte Rampling's comments on "Black actors not deserving a spot on the nominations list" is offensive, disheartening, superior and demeaning. As actors and actresses, we should not be looked at simply for our color, but acknowledge that people of color are just as good as everyone else. Ms. Rampling's opinions offer a thought that minorities were not good enough this year and therefore did not land a nomination. Here is a list of minorities in movies who DID deserve an Oscar Nomination:
Samuel L. Jackson- The Hateful Eight
Will Smith- Concussion
Michael B. Jordan- Creed
Olivia Wilde- Meadowland
Benicio Del Toro- Sicario
O'Shea Jackson Jr- Straight Outta Compton
Corey Hawkins- Straight Outta Compton
Jason Mitchell- Straight Outta Compton
Oscar Isaac- Ex Machina
Forrest Goodluck- The Revenant
Justin Chon- Seoul Searching
Jessika Van- Seoul Searching
Edgar Ramirez- Joy
Dascha Polanco- Joy
Shameik Moore- Dope
Zoe Kravitz- Dope/Mad Max Fury Road
The list goes on and on. There is indeed plenty of exceptional talent to be recognized. For Charlotte Rampling to suggest that there wasn't is a travesty of epic proportions and a call to strip her of her Oscar nomination. As extreme as you may find this, you'd understand that every actor takes their work seriously and we should all be subjective as we were with Charlotte's performance in "45 Years." If we allow Charlotte to speak so poorly of her fellow actors and actresses it will mimic next year and the year after that, suggesting that Minorities only play a small part in American Cinema, and that is simply not true. Not only are they major players but they contribute a fascinating and rich story line to our movies. EVERY actor should be treated equally. We should not point out minorities as stand alones as we shouldn't with White actors. We should be inclusive to all and Charlotte's negative comments towards minority actors/actresses is simply a low blow and a set back to American Cinema. Those that have signed this acknowledge that WE ARE ALL EQUAL in every profession and should be treated with EQUAL respect. I ask to strip Charlotte of her Oscar nomination for 2015. Respectfully, Thank you.
