For winter break, students are expected to move out of their academic year rooms, and relocate to another dorm. This means they will have to live in another students room for the break. Furthermore, students are expected to use one kitchen for the entire break, which is on a lower part of the campus. This is inaccessible and inconsiderate given the weather changes. Although this is a practice that has been occurring for years, it is in the best interest of students to work towards a more organized plan for winter break housing.

After talking to many students and faculty members, a lot of concerns were expressed, some of which are included in the first paragraph. Therefore, I would like to propose these three solutions on the behalf of the student body.

1. We would like access to another kitchen that is accessible. Many students will be on campus for the break and will have to cook at some point being that the dining hall will be closed. Having one kitchen is not reasonable.

2. We would like to discuss the possibilities of having funds allocated to help cover the cost of groceries. Students are expected to pay for housing and also figure out funding to support themselves, which is a lot for one person to take on. Bryn Mawr is notorious for raising money and not allocating funds to support students in need.

3. We would like to discuss and execute a plan for changing housing location. It would be ideal for students to remain in their academic rooms. However, if this is not possible given the concerns for saving energy, we would like a safer solution other than staying in another persons room.

In closing, I would like to re-emphasize how important this petition is given current events. Living in another persons room is beyond unsafe given the pandemic. We are asking for these changes so students can remain comfortable during the winter break, especially while being away from home during the holidays.
