I grew up with Windows. I had a windows 95 desktop, which was then obviously old since I also had a Windows XP laptop. I can't remember what brand the manufacturers were. I slowly learned more and more about PC's the more I used them from the keyboard and mouse all the way down to the Hard Drive and the graphics card.

Later on, I got myself a laptop that had Windows 7 installed. I loved it, but it wasn't as much of leap forward as Windows XP. After that, I bought the desktop that I'm using right now, which came with Windows 8.1. One month later, Windows 10 came along and I was happy to upgrade, but was upset that I can't use 8.1 anymore. Later on, in October 2016, here we are now.

I was later told about Windows XP no longer being available from Microsoft online, and I was upset. I actually missed out on this news. The Windows version that was considered by me and my friends to be the best Windows (before Windows 10), now gone forever. I was extremely late on that news since I was too busy on my more recent PCs.

Now recently, I listen again to see that now both Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 are being thrown out too in a shot amount of time (Patrizio).

This petition is being written to somehow keep legacy Windows OS's alive. They deserve just as much love as Windows 10. I'm certain that millions of people out there can, and will agree with me.

I want them to stay alive so I can show future generations (my kids) what Windows meant to me when I was a kid. Not being able to do that would actually break my heart. It would keep me from using the (still impressive) features that the legends gave the world.

A lot of people claim they still want to use retro Windows versions even after they decided to keep Windows 10. I really cannot argue with them. They are fun to use since They have a lot of features that were (unfortunately) cut out of the final cut of Windows 10, and I am completely unaware of any plan Redmond has of reinstating them. Some old programs (old 90's and early 2000's games, retro software, etc.) that are incompatible with Windows 10 only work on Windows XP based on some times when I tried to run Lords of Magic (a really fun 90's role playing game from the time).

As a suggestion, it would be best to post the legacy Os's on a classic section of a website in the lines between a freeware and freeware with a little bit of the whole “Get Windows 10” stuff asking the user to buy Windows 10. Windows 7 and 8.1 could have a small fee since they still have some life left in security patches.

Just in case Microsoft wants to make manufacturers restrict their hardware (processors, gpu, etc) or software and firmware (Boot such as UEFI and Coreboot) only function under Windows 10, I'm afraid I'll have to say no that. That somewhat hurts my petition for obvious reasons.

Signing this petition indicates that you agree that Microsoft should revive Legacy Windows operating systems.
