5th St./Ridge is an entrance corridor off 64 into Charlottesville. That road already has two hotels, Holiday Inn and Sleep Inn. To bring "passing through" traffic through the Ridge Neighborhood, across Cherry Ave is inconsiderate the city residents that are living on 5th St./Ridge St. The traffic coming along 5th to Cherry is already a nightmare during morning and evening "rush" hours. There is a documented grave yard and historic trees on that site.

This hotel does not fit with the historic character of the Ridge Street Neighborhood and should never have been allowed.

That's just a bad idea.

"http://www.cvilletomorrow.org/news/article/21423-neighborhood-hotel-opposition/" Five of seven planning commissioners present at their May meeting recommended that the council deny the amendment. Deny this.

.38 miles away from this proposed hotel, is a hotel that is currently being built. The one on Main and Ridge, not only ignored the rich and complex history of Vinegar Hill, but is also another monolithic, sterile, brick building that in no way relates to the pedestrian and bike culture of Charlottesville. I question how this "need" for hotels is be assessed. Why fill all land with buildings?

Not only is this the wrong area to commercialize so grossly, there is a huge new Marriott at the corner of Main & McIntire - obscuring all views - whose entrance isn't even set back from Main St. Seems like a huge overkill.

This should be a mixed - use development. A Marriott alone is unacceptable.

Resolve the landmark building before any more biggies get built. Let's use what we already have Cville!

It is a measure of Mr Armstrong's chutzpah that he calls the few remaining Trees to be left in the property an "arboretum". When he is not presenting himself as a naturalist , It might be fair To characterize his business as a favored NGO , with friends in city hall of course. "Gateway" to the city indeed . One must ask if mismanaging the city is a requirement for office seekers And their rent seeking friends .

This location should be used for housing, but definitely not a hotel.

Why is this being changed from mixed use development with affordable housing to a Marriott hotel?

I live in Fifeville. The previous proposal for mixed use with affordable housing is much more in character for the neighborhood, particularly with Tonsler Park across the street. Furthermore, there appears to be a stream on the site. Preserving that waterway and protecting it essential for protecting the local watershed, water quality, and those downstream.

I don't believe that a hotel in this location will spur local economic activity. If anything it will increase pressure to funnel more traffic through the Fifeville neighborhood while those who live here do so because of the human scale and pace of the neighborhood.

It is both appalling and very sad that the city would choose the wishes of a developer over the needs and best interests of the city. We need more affordable housing. I believe C'ville is on it's way to becoming a not great place to live.

I do not support a hotel on the corner of Cherry and Ridge Street. I believe it is an inappropriate sized building and in appropriate business for that area of Charlottesville.

awful idea. we have enough expansion in stupid places already. keep Charlottesville, as diverse as we can.
