William and Mary in Ivy League

The undersigned urge the College of William and Mary in Virginia to (i) take note of its history and emphasis on academic excellence as consistent with the institutions of the Ivy League; (ii) compare its athletic programs and facilities with those of the Ivy League; and (iii) conclude that the use by the Ivy League of broad-based athletic programs to engage a large percentage of the student body and to strengthen the institution's fundamental academic mission is consistent with the balance sought by the College. Based on that conclusion, we ask the College to pursue admission to the Ivy League as the second state-supported institution within that conference, and to take steps necessary to conform its athletic programs to the requirements and goals of the Ivy League.
