The BLM has stated that it will use the increased funding to roundup and remove nearly 5,000 additional mustangs and burros from our public lands by the end the year, after already removing nearly 6,000 wild horses since the fiscal year began in October 2010.
We already have over 42,000 wild horses held captive in holding facilities that will cost taxpayers $46 million this year alone.
Although the BLM is talking about making changes to this program, without pressure from Congress, it will continue to do business as usual. That has been the history of this program. While we have a moral obligation to care for the wild horses already in captivity, we cannot allow this agency to deepen its fiscal black hole by bringing more and more mustangs into taxpayer-funded holding facilities.
As Congress considers drastic spending cuts, we cannot afford to turn a blind eye to this broken federal program that is wasting tax dollars and harming our federally-protected wild horses and burros.

Seeing these horses running free in my memories makes the news of more roundups feel like a punch to the gut. I have been reading your stories and it is clear that so many of you feel this same ache when you think about these animals losing their home on the range.

Seeing this grow makes me feel like these horses might finally have a real fighting chance against the bureaucracy. It hurts to think about what they face out on the range but knowing so many people feel this same ache gives me hope for a change.

These round ups need to stop the horses deserve to run free if someone wants to adopt one they should be able to Obtain one in a manner that will not harm the horse
I personally refuse to eat any meat products to protest the round up of mustangs- let the wild horses live on the range, not sheep and cattle!

Mustang roundups are beyond criminal. No regard is given to these majestic horses. It's all about greedy land-grabbing cattle/sheep giants who are making money hand over fist using tax payer dollars. As a tax payer I want to see the money spent on protecting the mustangs with untouchable reserves/sanctuaries that appropriate for these iconic animals to live as they should.
