Women need safe spaces. If a woman is being abused there is nothing a Wi would be able to do to stop her male abuser joining the WI if he said he identified as a woman. We have fought too hard to create safe spaces for women please don’t throw this away. I also want to be kind to genuine trans woman.

I have just stopped the process of joining the WI after comments made by the leader .. I have no objection at all to joining an organisation that allows trans women to join as well but I strongly object to the words of Melissa Green that trans women are women. I am a woman, not a costume, and I believe this should be respected. How can the WI know how to represent women if they don’t know what one is. I’m 56 and now in the position of having time to give to my community via the WI but I never will join until the WI knows what a woman is.

I wanted to join but can’t now, in good conscience, as you’re allowing trans women to join.
Yesterday a trans woman gloated on Twitter that she’d been accepted for membership before publicly commenting that she had made a list of TERFS (biological women) that she wanted to kill.
Women need women only safe spaces. I feel very disappointed that, because of your stance on admitting trans women I, as a biological woman, no longer feel safe to join.

I believe that biological sex determines who is a woman, not a subjective claim of self ID. You have already admitted a man who identifies as a woman who has publically declared on social media on his profile "MissGripper" ( he has more than one profile and name) that he is part of a group that compiled a list of 50 high profile women to be murdered for the scientific belief of sex. A man is a man and a woman is a woman. Womens spaces are for women and are protected by law. I van not learn anything about a being a woman from a man who identifies as a woman as they have no idea of the life and experiences of an a human female.
This is not an appropriate way for the WI to "move with the times" as 51% of adult humans are biological women. I and many other members will cancel out membership if you continue with this policy.
It is a major change in the organisation to allow men/ biological men to join and the vote should have been put to the whole membership

I am extremely disappointed that the WI is allowing men into women's spaces. By all means set up a separate group system for transgender people but not in the existing groups that were set up by women for women.
