This petition, along with included signatures, serves as a sign of support for marriage equality and the upholding of the ruling set forth by the Supreme Court of the United States in Obergefell v. Hodges.

It has come to the attention of the signers of this petition that the county clerk of Whitley County, Kentucky, Mrs. Kay Schwartz, has refused to order necessary forms and documents needed to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Whitley County. Therefore, it is the purpose of this petition to detest that decision and demand the ruling established by the Supreme Court be upheld by the county, calling upon the decrees found within The United States' Constitution. It is the intention of this petition to have this injustice rectified immediately.

I am still processing the amount of people who have stepped forward to ask for fairness in our community. While I am just one person trying to see this through, hearing your stories keeps me going when things feel quiet.

July 7, 2015

I am truly overwhelmed by the momentum this is gathering. Seeing so many people come together to insist on fairness is entirely due to your kindness and persistence. This movement belongs to you.

You ran for this office and knew your job responsibilities before you started. I am sure when you were sworn in you agreed to carry out the laws of the land without reservation. Why are the states/government allowing this to happen. If these officials aren't willing to fullfill their duties why are they still employed?

As a straight Christian, I am appalled by the fact that this clerk is refusing to do her job and uphold the law of the Supreme Court. It sickens me to see the hatred displayed and the utter lack of Christian behavior. I am a Christian for LGBTQ rights!

I understand that this issue may go against Kaye Swartz personal beliefs but she's employed by the people of Whitley County to serve them. By not complying with the Supreme Court ruling she's pushing her own personal agenda.

This lady needs to do her job, resign, or be fired. Immediately. It's very hypocritical of her to take a stance against ONE group of people. I wonder if she surveys everyone who enters her office to see if she deems them worthy of a marriage license? My tax dollars should NOT be spent to pay her salary if she can't follow the law, and if she isn't capable of doing her job.

as a part of the lgbtqa community, I feel that same sex marriage shouldn't be an issue at all. how is someone else' marriage personally effecting your own?

Civil marriage and marriage in a church are two different things. The law says that civil marriage is for ALL people regardless of race, creed, color or sexual orientation. Abide by the law or resign.

Job duties are job duties.. If I didn't do mine, I'd be fired or asked to resign, these clerks are no better. Religious beliefs or not!
